Buckeye Chuck is indicating that an early spring is on the way. He was pulled from his hole this morning and faced cloudy skies along with scattered snow showers, and he failed to see his shadow.
Most area residents say that's great news.
"I'm so excited. I'm done with the snow and the cold, " says Zanesville resident Becky Newaman.
"Yeah, it's been really cold. Hopefully, it starts getting warmer here soon, " says Zanesville resident Alex Grenawalt.
"I hate the snow, absolutely hate it, " says Nashport resident, Becky Hall.
"I just recently had a baby. So, just the cold and trying to keep him warm, " says Newman.
Residents say there are a couple of things they are looking forward to this spring if it does comes early.
"We just moved into a new house, and I'm ready to plant flowers. Spring means summer's coming, " says Hall.
"Going outside and enjoying the weather, for sure, " says Newman.
Yet, one Zanesville resident is trying to be rational about this long-time superstition that started in Germany.
"I feel winter is going to be here a little bit longer, " says Grenawalt.
Buckeye Chuck may say spring is coming early, but Punxsutawney Phil had a different story over in Pennsylvania. Phil did see his shadow and says six more weeks of winter are on the way.
