A husband and wife will team up this friday as the featured artists at the First Friday Artwalk of 2010.
Marilyn and Jerry Westgerdes are art professors at the Zanesville branch of Ohio University and a part of the Zanesville Appalachain Arts Project.
"I come from a family of artists," said Marilyn Westgerdes. "I grew with it. It's like a lifestyle, more or less. I went to art school in Las Angeles, met my husband. We're both artists. That's why we're showing together."
The Westgerdes' paint, sculpt and work with stained glass amongst other mediums. Marilyn's husband Jerry says art is critical to their lives.
"it keeps me sane," he said. "It keeps me off the streets at night. Seriously though, I don't know what I would do if I didn't have art to vent. It vents my feelings and ideas. It's a way of expression, of expressing yourself."
The Westgerdes' work will be on display at the ZAAP Gallery friday from 6 p.m. To 9 p.. Other galleries around downtown will be open featuring other local artists as well.
