It's that time of year again. Young women from around Southeastern Ohio are beginning to compete for the Miss Muskingum Valley crown.
Today the girls got together for some pointers from Miss Ohio 2008 Karissa Martin.
"Today I'm working on a little bit of modeling skills, poise, presentation and helping them be comfortable with being on stage," said Martin. "Hopefully make it a little easier for them, less to think about when they get into competition."
Martin said the scholarship program always has stiff competition, which can make contestants very nervous.
"Some of the hardest things are just remembering to relax when you're on stage," she said. "You have have all these bright lights hitting you, a panel of judges, just relaxing, being yourself and making sure your personality shines through while you're on stage."
Miss Muskingum Valley will take place at Zanesville's Secrest Auditorium March 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m.
The winner will go on to compete in the Miss Ohio competition.
