Donkey Basketball at Philo

One local school is raising money in a unique way-donkey basketball. Yes, you read it right.

The Philo High School Baseball Team hosted a Donkey Basketball Tournament tonight at the home of the Electrics.

The Power Plant was packed to see just how the teams would manage a game with the animals.

"There's been a little bit of a buzz and talk about it," said Head Baseball Coach Rusty Miller. "But in my opinion, the biggest reason is that people are sick of snow and they want to get out and do anything. We've got a nice crowd right now. It's pretty big."

Senior player Jon Bonnett agreed.

"It's electric," he said. "It's better than our basketball games. We have so many people here; it's a big turnout. We've gotten a lot of support from the community and everything. There's people from other schools out here to watch this."

The tournament was made up of four teams. Everyone young and old were able to participate.

"We've got the administrators, the seniors, the alumni and we've got the teachers," said Principal Troy Dawson."I think the administrators will win."

But Bonnett wasn't so confident in the administration.

"The students are going to win. We're younger and more agile," he said. "We got it."

The event pre-sold 1,800 tickets, but more were sold at the door.

Proceeds will go to the baseball team to purchase new uniforms.
