A 13-year-old girl is dead after a two car crash and two other individuals are taken to the hospital with what the Dresden Fire Department says are serious injuries.
It happened around 5:15 p.m. on Raiders Road, near the intersection of Short Road, in Frazeysburg.
Brett Kanavel was a witness to the crash. He was traveling east, behind the black Intrepid.
"I noticed the brown Bonneville swerved into our lane, trying to pass a car that was in his lane. So, I swerved off the road, onto Short Road, and I looked back. I could see the Bonneville and the Intrepid collide, " says Kanavel.
He says the incident really shook him up.
"It was loud. Both cars were going 55, 60 mph when they collided. So, it was a pretty big impact, " says Kanavel.
The Dresden Fire Department was the first crew on the scene of the crash. Fire Chief Carl Archer says the "jaws of life" were used to extricate the driver and the passenger in the Intrepid along with the driver in the Bonneville. He says the young passenger was unresponsive at the scene.
"That's the one we were most concerned with. The other two, we believe they have leg fractures, but the severity of the one leg fracture, we figured they would have to fly them to Columbus to be taken care of, " says Archer.
All three individuals were initially transported to the hospital with serious injuries, and then the 13-year-old and one of the other individual were taken by Medflight to Columbus. Sergeant Jeremy Mendenhall of the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol says the girl was later pronounced dead.
The conditions of the other patients are not known at this time.
