The city and the county are fully utilizing money from the Neighborhood Stabilization grant.
That money is going toward demolition and housing development.
"We have a threshold that must be met by the end of March. That is 75% of those funds must be encumbered, " says Zanesville Community Development Director, Stacy Clapper.
Clapper wanted to update the Muskingum County Commissioners on the matter. She says the next step is getting 90 percent of the funds spent by May 31st.
The city and the county targeted an area in the southern part of zip code 43701 and are currently working on the demolition of 42 structures, but Clapper says they money is also being used elsewhere.
"Applications have been flowing in from potential homeowners that are looking for down payment assistance in rehabilitation. These are coming in both the county and the city, " says Clapper.
She says she expects those applications to be successful in the near future. Clapper says the city and the county will continue to accept these applications on a first-come, first-serve basis until all the money is used.
