Big Brothers Big Sisters is celebrating the great response it has received for its biggest fundraiser of the year.
The organization says preliminary results indicate the event has raised more that 70 thousand dollars. "Bowl for Kids' Sake" was held at the Maysville All-Star Lanes over the past four days and drew in 215 teams. That's more teams than the event saw last year, But the event isn't stopping there.
There's still time to take part in Wii Bowling Tournaments, which will be held all throughout the month of April. The Big Brothers Big Sisters' staff hopes after the Wii Bowling Tournaments wrap up, the earnings of "Bowl for Kids' Sake" will total 90 thousand dollars.
"The reason they set the goal high is because our need is high. We've had a 40 percent increase in the number of children we did serve. Plus, we still have children requesting a Big Brother or Big Sister. So, we know the need is still out there, " says Executive Director. Mollie Crooks.
It costs Big Brothers Big Sisters one thousand dollars a year to support just one Big-Little match-up, which is why the organization needs this funding.
Crooks says she's optimistic that the goal will be met.
"This community never ceases to amaze me. People always just find a way to dig deeper and help out those causes that they believe in, " says Crooks.
