35 students from around the area are lighting up the stage in "Seussical the Musical."
It's a performance based off the author's most beloved children's books.
"The thing about Dr. Seuss, he's more than just a juvenile author. His books are suitable for adults and have adult themes about relationships, conservation, politics...all kinds of things, " says Powerhouse of Southeastern Ohio Board President, Cristy Szemetylo.
The group of performers put on a show at the John McIntire Library for some local schools this afternoon. Szemetylo says theater is so important for both students to take part in and to watch.
"Unfortunately, with all the school funding issues in Ohio, the arts are pretty much the first thing to go. It's already a discussion even at the federal level as they're trying to determine what makes a good education. There's been a lot of focus on math and science, which of course are very important, but I think students need to have a well-rounded education, " says Szemetylo.
The Powerhouse of Southeastern Ohio made the event possible, and Szemetylo says it wants to continue to provide children the opportunity to take part in the arts.
