It's a Mother's Day tradition that the Washington Township Fire Department has held for more than 50 years, and people were lining up to get a taste of some grilled chicken.

Firefighters came in around four a.m. to prepare 14 hundred chicken halves, which they got locally from Phillip's Meats. So what makes that chicken taste so good?

"I don't know. I don't eat chicken. I'm going to have a steak after a while. So, 1,400 dinners and one steak, " says Fire Chief Gene Hanning.

Hanning says the best part of the day is seeing families walk through and sit down to eat together with their moms.

"We just hope that way they can have a good meal and they don't have to work, " says Hanning.

All 14 hundred meals were sold out in about four hours.

Proceeds from the event will help the fire department buy new equipment. It was expected to bring in close to three thousand dollars.
