Additional Funding

The Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District is asking the county commissioners for monetary help.

It presented its 2011 budget, which must be submitted by June 1st of this year.

"What we requested this year in our total budget is less than what we asked last year. We've trimmed a lot of areas but are still carrying a lot of good, strong programs though, " says administrator Dick Sorg.

But it also requested some more immediate funding.

"If we can receive an additional $35,000 now by the end of this month to get our state match, which is going to be 78% to 80%, that will carry us through the end of this year, " says Sorg.

The state match next year is expected to drop to around 53 percent. Sorg says that additional funding will help keep the district running its day-to-day operations.

The Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District does a variety of work with the urban sector, soil and erosion control, timber production, and farm grazing.
