Memorial Day Weekend is approaching, which is the unofficial kick-off to summer. It's also a time when more people partake in water recreational sports.
That's why the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Watercraft is launching its campaign titled, "Wear It Ohio."
Division of Watercraft Chief, Pamela Dillion, says life jackets are extremely important, considering four people already died this year in boating-related incidents. She says none of those individuals were wearing proper safety gear.
It's also offering boating inspections at public ramps statewide. Inspectors will look at the condition of safety equipment on the boats and make sure they are readily accessible in case of an emergency. All inspections are free of cost.
