Johnathan Wisecarver is a recent graduate of Tri-Valley High School. In the fall, he's moving to the southwestern corner of the state to study bio-chemistry at the University of Cincinnati, and he has hopes of becoming a doctor. However, to get to where he is today, Wisecarver had to endure one major health issue.

"I had degenerative hip disease, where I had to have three inches removed from my femor that was in the third grade. That injury kept me from playing football my freshman, sophomore, and junior year, " says Wisecarver.

But Wisecarver was able to play his senior year. He says he's always been interested in football because the team acts as a family, and he wasn't going to let anything stand in his way of playing the sport he loved.

"While I was doing it, I didn't think of anything special. I just wanted to play. Every day I did something. I kind of took it step by step, " says Wisecarver.

The WHIZ Media Group and The Fieldhouse recognized Wisecarver for his hard work and presented him with the Seth Dille Courage and Athletics Award at the Tri-Valley Senior Awards Ceremony last Friday. He also received a scholarship of 500 dollars. The award is given out based on a student who has overcome an adversity regarding a health, handicap, or disability issue.
