Today people are taking time to remember the people who served and are serving our country.
Many services were held in our area honoring veterans including one here at Woodlawn Cemetery. Zanesville Military Family Support Group AJ Smidt says people come to remember the sacrifices the soldiers made and continue to make for us to be free.
"When they can come out and show support it really does mean a lot," Smidt said.
"We need our military and thats who we count on in times of great term oil," Smidt said.
Smidt said she's always amazed by the support of the community. And local vets like Drew Harper say it means so much.
"People are recognizing the sacrifices and from Korea and Vietnam along with the current wars that are going on and it makes veterans feel a lot better. You feel a relief that someone finally understands you. It's a good feeling to know people are recognizes all the veterans regardless of the wars that they are involved in," Harper said.
Harper served in two tours in Vietnam and says he fortunate to be able to observe these services on Memorial Day.
