Would having seatbelts on the school bus made a difference in the outcome of the crash?
That's a question the Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is considering while it investigates the cause of the crash.
"It's pending an investigation. So, it's hard to say. I don't want to make a comment on that right now. While we're investigating, we want to see how the investigation turns out. There has been a lot of discussion and talking referencing seatbelts on buses, " says Zanesville Post Commander Lt. Steven Rine.
The Ohio House Transportation and Infrastructure Committe just unanimously approved a bill that would require school buses to have seatbelts.
94th District State Representative Troy Balderson is part of that committee and says he's supported the bill from the beginning because quote "seatbelts save lives." Balderson says this morning's accident is a tragedy, and his thoughts and prayers go out to Kasey King's family.
A moment of silence was held during the meeting.
