Local AEP customers can start applying this Thursday for a grant that could help them pay their mortgage, among other things.

Through this grant, the United Way is able to offer funding to residents of Muskingum, Morgan, and Perry counties.

"Well we're really excited. This is the second time we've received this Housing and Health Initiative grant from AEP and this grant is to help families who need help with their rent, their mortgage, and also in the health field for maybe visits to a doctor visit and they need a gas voucher to get to that visit," says Call Center Manager, Audrey Foster.

Anyone interested must be a current AEP Ohio customer. To find out if you are qualified and to apply, call 2-1-1 starting Thursday.

"First see if you qualify, and then they will set up a date so you can come in with some of the papers you will need," says Foster.

The total grant is for $18,764 and is broken up for each of the three counties by the percentage of AEP customers.
