Did you know that 1 in every 100 kids suffers from autism?
It's a medical condition that affects kids' social and communication skills.
"It is the fastest growing disability in kids. It supercedes aides, pediatric cancer, and diabetes. It supercedes all of those, and it really is an epidemic. People need to wake up, and we really need to look at autism, " says National Autism Association of Southeast Ohio President, Shannon Coconis.
Medical experts have a disagreement over the exact cause of the disease, but Coconis says it can be cured.
That's why the National Autism Association of Southeast Ohio teamed with several local businesses to put on the inaugural "Tee It up for Autism" Golf Outing. The event was to raise money for kids with autism.
"Autism is not covered by insurance. So, all the money raised here, stays here, which is great for local families because therapies and treatments get very costly and take quite a financial toll on the families, " says Coconis.
More than 130 golfers hit the links at the Zanesville Country Club to take part in the event.
