One person donating blood can save three people's lives. This week you'll have two opportunities to save a life.
The Muskingum Valley Red Cross is having two blood drives Friday June 25th. Executive Director Dan Hartman said there is a high demand for donors in the summer.
"There's a lot of reasons why there is more need for blood. People are on vacations, their regular schedules are interrupted, and the second big one are schools aren't in session because we get a large amount from high schools and colleges," Hartman said.
He said they need the community's support.
"Every unit donated can save up to three lives the different part and pieces that get used for burn victims for leukemia patients for surgery patients a lot of different things can come out of one unit of blood and that's the value of one person donating. It'll take an hour of your time but three people are going to be alive because of it," Hartman said.
If you have never donated make sure you eat breakfast and lunch and drink plenty of fluids 24 hours before.
You can give at the Colony Square Mall from 1 to 7pm and at the Perry County Library from 12 to 6pm. Even though you don't need an appointment the red cross is asking you to make one so you don't have to wait 1-800-Red-Cross.
