A Licking County inmate, who escaped after attending his mother's funeral, is caught.

35-year-old Jason Schraishuhn was granted temporary judicial release to attend his mother's funeral this morning and was released under the supervision of the Jail Chaplain.

When the funeral ended, Schraishuhn got into a moving vehicle at the intersection of Cedar and Tuscarawas streets and fled. The Sheriff's Office and Newark Police Department set up a perimeter in this area and searched the neighborhood. After a homeowner alerted crews that Schraishuhn was in the basement of his 385 Andover Street home, he was taken into custody.

He is currently being held at the Licking County Justice Center until formal charges are filed.

The Sheriff's Office says Schraishuhn was initially being held on a misdemeanor probation violation and a holder warrant from Knox County. He was arrested in 2009 for possession of heroin, possession of marijuana, and possession of drugs.
