The Zanesville Fire Department is calling a fire at the old Zanesville High School suspicious.
It happened around 8:15 p.m.
Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Thomas says his crew could see the flames from Interstate 70.
"When we came, we found a pile of debris that the demolition crew had taken out of the building. It appears someone had set it on fire up against the part of the building here, " says Thomas.
Thomas says it was a decent size fire that had flames going 20 feet up the side of the building. It caused visible smoke damage all the way to the roof.
Thomas says witnesses are offering some information on unusual activity they saw around the building before the fire.
"It's still a crime to do this. It's an abuse of the 911 system and emergency services. It ties us up for these kinds of things to where we're not available for real emergencies then. So, we're following the leads up at this time, " says Thomas.
Thomas says the incident was a nuisance more than anything, especially since the building it set to be demolished next week.
