A Hocking County man is dead after an early morning fire.

It happened at a residence on State Route 93 in Logan around 6:45 a.m.

The State Fire Marshal's Office has been called in to investigate. Spokesman Shane Cartmill says the 91-year-old man initially escaped out of the home, but he re-entered to gather some personal belongings.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time, but it did start in the living room. Cartmill says power service to the area was out before the fire started. It's unknown if there were any smoke detectors in the home.

This is the 79th fire-related death this year.
