Police in Newark respond to a home on West National Drive after receiving a call that gun shots were fired.

At 2:40p.m. the Newark Police Department was called to 109 West National Drive.

"Received a call of a man with a gun and then shortly after that there was a call for shots fired. One of our neighborhood impact officers was in the area. He responded quickly to the scene," says Sergeant Darrin Logan of the Newark Police Department.  

The man shot was 22-year-old James Dale Richard. He resides at the residence and was transported to Licking Memorial Hospital after the assault. Dispatchers at the hospital say Richard has been released, and detectives are continuing to search for the suspect.

"They're interviewing the victim and along with some other witnesses that were present and they're following up now," says Sgt. Logan.

The Newark Police Department says that the case remains under investigation as they continue to question witnesses. No one is in custody at this time.
