The city of Zanesville is working with Muskingum County to help truckers find a better route to the Eastpointe Business Park.
It's an issue that was brought up at the Muskingum County Transportation Improvement District meeting. It's mainly affecting those traveling from the Interstate 70 eastbound lanes.
"The GPS units that some truckers use are sending trucks through Zanesville, and they tell them to get to Eastpoint Park via State Route 666, which is impossible for large trucks, " says Port Authority Executive Director, Mike Jacobi.
So trucks are having to turn around, and when they do, some of them are damaging people's property. Mayor Howard Zwelling had a meeting with Jacobi to discuss putting signs up on Elberon Avenue for trucks to see when they get off the 7th Street exit.
"Telling them for Avon, New Bakery, for Dollar General, for Bilco, and for the Eastpoine Industrial Park to get back on the expressway and go back out to exit 160 to go right down the pike to the Industrial Park, " says Zwelling.
If they pass these signs, others will be posted on Hall Avenue to direct trucks to Adamsville Road. The county is expected to pay for the signs, which Zwelling says should be up in a month.
