The Muskingum County Community Foundation is thanking a local artist.
Artist, Bob "Yabo" Wilson, decided to donate a piece of work to the foundation as way of thanking foundation Director David Mitzle. The painting is of Trustee Member James McDonald. Wilson was diagnosed with Sarcoma in 2006. During treatment, Wilson had lost his left arm.
"When people hear the word cancer you really have no idea how devastating that is and how hard that is to hold your head up and be positive and I decided from that moment on that I was going to live life to the fullest everyday you know as much as possible," said Wilson.
After being diagnosed, Wilson had to shut down his sign and screen business. He says he had always been interested in fine arts and discovered that it was also therapuetic for him.
"I found out that you know I loved art, it was one of the things that kept me positive through all of that, and so I just kept doing it you know I'd get a piece done and start another one just work on it as much as I could, depending on how I felt," he said.
Wilson says that despite losing his arm, it has not interfered with his painting. He also has work on display at Gallery G here in Zanesville.
