Zanesville Police say one man is dead after a single car accident on the Y-Bridge. It happened around 1:30 Thursday morning. Police say witnesses saw 28-year-old Ryan Scott MCcuen of Zanesville heading south on Linden Avenue at a high rate of speed when he drove onto the bridge, struck a wall and burst into flames. Nearby Zanesville Police Officers witnessed the explosion and responded to the bridge. Captain Mike Baker says Patrolman Mark Stoffer ran up to the burning car, only to be pushed back by the heat of the fire. Stoffer told officers that he would not leave the victim in the car and proceeded to break out a window and pull McCuen out of the vehicle. Baker says Officers Travis Groves and Scott Blanton helped Stoffer. McCuen died from his injuries. Officers Stoffer and Groves were treated and released at the hospital for minor burns and smoke inhalation. Captain Baker says the three officers will now be nominated for medals of Honor for their valiant efforts.
