Military Families

The Muskingum Valley Red Cross is preparing for its Military Family Fest next month.

Staff say the recent nine year anniversary of September 11th has really made them aware of the sacrifices our troops make every day.

"When you think about the fact that we all got to sit down and watch our football games, or if you were lucky enough to be there to pick up a paper and read other people's thoughts, they hit us. They hit us hard, but they can never take our freedom away from us, " says Marlene Henderson of the Muskingum Valley Red Cross.

The event's theme this year is two simple words..."thank you." Henderson says there's a bond among troops and their families that no one else could ever understand.

"I can't imagine the worry with that day in and day out, especially when they're oversees. I think that takes incredibly strong people to do that, " says Henderson.

All military personnel and their families are invited to the Zanesville Municipal Airport from noon to 4 p.m. on October 16th for the free event. Henderson says she's expecting a turnout of almost 1,000 people because of the number of people who continue to step forward and to serve our country in Muskingum, Perry, and Morgan counties.
