Muskingum County Common Pleas Judge Kelly Cottrill sentences a Zanesville woman, who pled guilty in July to stealing more than $142,000 from a volunteer group at Genesis.

46-year-old Tamera Mealey stood before Judge Cottrill in tears.

"I would like to indicate my client has no criminal history. She's cooperated with authorities. She's acknowledged her wrongdoing and accepted responsibility, and she's very remorseful, " says Mealey's Defense Attnory, Mr. Stubbins.

The state was recommending that Mealey be put on community control and pay the restitution in full.

"Based upon the facts and circumstances in this case, Ms. Mealey, I am not going to follow the state's recommendation, " says Judge Cottrill.

Judge Cottrill sentenced her to two years in prison and required that she pay back the more than $142,000. She's being held in the Muskingum County Jail.

Genesis Healthcare System released a statement, saying they are content with Monday's ruling. Mealey stole from Charity Circle at Genesis between January 2005 and October 2009.
