Tornado Reported In Perry County/Shelter Opens At Crooksville H.S/Somerset Fire Department

There are reports that more than one  tornado has hit parts of Perry County.

Initial reports from the scene indicate that there is damage to homes and power lines in the Six Mile Turn area. 

A Perry County Sheriff's Department Dispatcher says there were multiple tornado touchdowns in the Perry County area.  One report is indicating that some house trailers are on their sides. 

There are reports from the scene that some people are trapped in their homes as a result of the storms.

The Muskingum Valley Red Cross has announced that it is opening an Emergency Shelter at Crooksville High School. Public Information Officer Eric Waltemire says the damage is being described as widespread...from Melon Hill to Buzzards Glory...also in the Somerset area. The Red Cross is reporting 6 families have been displaced from their homes so far.

So far only minor injuries are being reported, but it is early in recovery efforts. 

Waltemire says some injured people have been transported to Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville for treatment.   Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz says his deputies are assisting by closing down State Route 93 near Tunnel Hill Road. 

The Sheriff says the Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency is also helping in Perry County by provide its portable light plant.   A-E-P says over 1324 customers are without service in Perry County...1146 In Morgan County....255 Coshocton County...322 Licking County and 7864 in Athens County.  

The Muskingum Valley Red Cross has opened a 2nd Emergency Shelter at the Somerset Fire Department after reports of a Tornado touchdown earlier Thursday night in the Palonino Road area near the Fairfield County line.
