Dropping Off Prescription Drugs

Authorities are gearing up for National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz says prescription drug use is a growing problem in our area.

"It's more readily available. You can obtain it without going on the street and making buys from people that you don't know. A lot of family members will steal from each other, " says Sheriff Lutz.

These presciption drugs can pose major health problems and even result in death.

"Because a lot of times they'll crush the stuff and try to snort it or try to ingest it. It takes the time delay away from it and makes it very dangerous. We have a lot of od's with that," says Sheriff Lutz.

Everyone is invited to the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. this Saturday to drop off pills, liquid medications, and injectables. Illegal substances, such as marijuana or methanphetamines will not be accepted.
