While family and friends are mourning the loss of a loved one, her memory continues to live on.
More than 100 people gathered for a benefit in honor of Katie Riser outside of the Olde Falls Inn in Zanesville. Riser passed away from Pancreatic cancer on September 1st after being diagnosed in July. All of the proceeds collected were given to the Riser family to assist with medical bills.
"It's also a celebration for Katie, because this is the kind of person she was. She enjoyed getting out, and you see the picture over there, her smile says it all, and that's what Katie was all the time," said Family friend Ron Henderson.
Henderson says he's not surprised by the large turn-out, he says Katie was a joy to be around. Several area businesses also stepped forward to make donations to be auctioned off to help raise money for the Riser family.
"Katie has been a good customer of ours for about 25 years, and we felt like it was our duty to help them out, they gave us good service, and we like to pay back the family a good bit," said Manager of Olde Falls Inn Roger Willy.
Katie passed away at the age of 51 and is survived by her husband and two children.
