Tonight, two local heroes got the chance to say "thank you."
Zanesville Police Department Patrolman Mike Schiele and K-9 partner, Bosco, were both injured during a shooting in August of 2009. Monday night, the pair thanked everyone who had a part in Bosco's recovery process.
"The support that we've had has been phenomenal. And we wanted to let everybody know that we really appreciate that and just a small token of our appreciation for all that they did for us," says Patrolman Schiele.
Although Bosco is not returning to the K-9 unit, he does make appearances at schools and nursing homes on the behalf of the department. Officer Schiele says Bosco has made great progress.
"He still has some issues with the right front that he won't get back, but all in all he's doing well and adjusting well to living at home and not going to work every day."
Members of the community were able to meet with Officer Schiele and Bosco after the awards ceremony at the John McIntire Library.
