Local health officials want to extend the seasonal flu vaccine to as many Muskingum County residents as possible.

So, in addition to being able to get your vaccination at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. this year, three additional locations will be added to the list. A walk-in clinic will be held at the OU-Z/Zane State Campus from 11 to 3. A second drive-thru clinic will be held at the Dresden Fire Department from 1-5, and a student and faculty-only clinic will be held at Muskingum University during the day.  All events will be held on Thursday October 7th.

Events such as this one are used in case of an epidemic or pandemic.

"No matter what number we vaccinate, it will still be a successful campaign because not only is it a success in the vaccination, but it's the success of bringing everybody together to plan and stage for this event, " says Environmental Health Director, Mike Kirsch.

4,000 Muskingum County residents received their seasonal flu shot last year, and Kirsch says he expects that number to climb this year.

"People are there before 7 a.m., actually in line waiting. So, there are people that take this very seriously, " says Kirsch.

If you plan to go to the fairground for your vaccination, make sure to set your radio to the local 88.5 FM signal. It will provide continuous instructions for you as you move throughout the property.
