The company that brought the Rockies Express pipeline to Muskingum County, is working on another project.

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners met with Muskingum County commissioners about a $520 million project that would run a proposed 240-mile natural gas liquids pipeline through Ohio.

"It's all in the state of Ohio. Beginning in Monroe County and exiting in Fulton County up by Toledo, but it will come through the Northeast part of Muskingum County," says Alan Fore, Director of Community Relations for Kinder Morgan.

The Cochin Marcellus Lateral Pipeline will be able to transport natural gas liquids from Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio regions to facilities in Illinois and Canada. The product being transported can be used in various ways.

"We're using a product, natural gas liquids that many times is flared away or burned away and not utilized. This product could potentially be used for plastics, fertilizers, propane, for a number of uses," says Fore.

The construction phase could mean 2,500 jobs in Ohio that Fore says will all be union work. Construction is slated to start in the Summer of 2011 and be completed within a year.

Kinder Morgan also expressed concern to county commissioners about the property tax revenues owed along the Rockies Express Pipeline. The Ohio Department of Taxation now says the company's tax liability is $70 million , up from the $31.1 million originally proposed. Kinder asked for commissioner support of their appeal of the new tax liability. County commissioners say they will do whatever they can to move the issue forward and would work to arrange a meeting with the state.
