The number of people killed in fatal crashes in one local county is up. The Licking County Safe Communities program says there are 18 reported deaths so far this year, compared to 13 this time last year.

The National Highway Safety Administration indicates each of these deaths equates to a loss of $3.4 million for the county. That means Licking County has lost a total of about $61 million in lost life years and productivity.
