Genesis HealthCare System and Unison Health Plan of Ohio have agreed to extend their negotiating period on certain Medicaid services.
The former agreement ran through October 31, 2010, however, the two parties are working through administrative issues and have agreed to extend negotiations through January 31, 2011. The added time gives Genesis and Unison time to write a contract.
"It's more the administration of the program and how it can work more effectively for our patients and physicians," says CEO of Genesis HealthCare System, Matthew Perry.
The move allows for uninterrupted care for Unison's 8,600 members in Muskingum County. Perry believes Genesis and Unison will be able to negotiate a final contract.
"Our goal all along is we wanted to be able to serve everybody in this community and this process we've gone through will enable us to do that."
The two parties have made progress since August of 2010 when Genesis notified Unison of their intention to end the agreement in October. Both sides hope to have a deal in place by the end of this year.
