A Newark man is facing charges after authorities say they found letters indicating there was a possible explosive device near the Licking County Courthouse.

According to a press release, on Tuesday Sheriff's Detectives along with the FBI and ATF Agents obtained a search warrant and searched a van owned by Dax Cantrell where they found several letters.

Bomb dogs from Muskingum and Franklin Counties and the Airport Police were called to conduct a search.

The Licking County Municipal building, Common Pleas Courthouse and Domestic Relations Court building were searched and found to be clear of any type of explosive devices.

Authorities also found that Cantrell was renting a storage unit located on North 11th street in Newark.

During a search of the storage unit authorities found evidence of another explosive device.

The Franklin County Bomb Squad Unit was called to the scene and determined it safe.

The case remains under investigation.
