Miracle On Main Street

The snow and cold temperatures weren't enough to stop Zanesville residents from taking part in one holiday tradition.

Tonight marked the 17th annual Miracle on Main Street celebration. The event featured signature staples like the broadway babies, several area choirs, good Old St. Nick, and of course, The tree lighting ceremony.

Because the economy is in the red, the city of Zanesville decided to go green with some of their lights. They are using LED lights to help save on energy costs for the city as well as cutting down on lighting city streets just to main street.

"Budget constraints made us do less but were doing better and i think people are going to enjoy that," says Zanesville Mayor Butch Zwelling.

Residents of all ages attended and watched with amazement as the lights turned on at the downtown courthouse.

"This is the greatest community in the world. And I wanna tell you, there must be a thousand people down here tonight to see these lights go on and you will be impressed when those lights go on because its just a magic moment," says Zwelling.

As a reminder, the holiday season is just getting started here in Zanesville. The fun continues with the Festival of Trees running at the welcome center from 5 to 8 pm on Thursday. The auction will take place friday from 9 am to 6 pm.
