AAA Tips

Winter weather could mean disaster for drivers.

To assist drivers, AAA offers tips to keep you safe on wintry roads.  Along with checking your battery, replacing old windshield wipers, and keeping your gas tank at least half full, AAA Sales Manager Rhoda Collins says tire pressure is something that should be kept in mind.

"Well first you should get your car prepped for the cold weather coming up. Cold weather will actually decrease the air in your tires, so you should always check your tires to make sure you have the proper amount of air pressure in your tires," said Collins.

During winter storms, AAA responds to about 3500 calls a day from people whose vehicles have become stuck or broken down.  Collins says it can happen to anyone so it is always a good idea to be prepared.  AAA recommends packing an emergency roadside kit that includes things such as jumper cables, blankets, flashlights, and non-perishable food.

"You should stay in your cars and keep an emergency road kit in your vehicle at all times, and hopefully you have a cell phone, you should also keep a cell phone charger in your vehicle too so you can at least call for help but never stay out along the car when you break down," said Collins.

AAA road service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  To assist you in an emergency, you can call 1-800-AAA-HELP.
