Child Dies Following Accident

A nine-year-old boy has died from injuries sustained in an accident.

According to Trooper Tood Henry with the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol Cole Newton was pronounced dead Monday.

Newton was involved in a two-vehicle crash Sunday on State Route 83 just north of New Concord.

According to the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol, a Chevy Monte Carlo driven by 33-year-old Chester Newton III of Zanesville was turning into a private driveway northbound on State Route 83 when a Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by 36-year-old Chad Orecchio of New Concord driving southbound struck the Monto Carlo causing extensive damage to both vehicles

Newton's Monte Carlo was carrying four passengers including two adults and two children, 9-year-old Cole and 11-year-old Gavin Newton. Both were life-flighted to Children's Hospital in Columbus, where Cole passed away Monday.

Oreccchio and two children in his vehicle were treated at the hospital for minor injuries.
