The Animal Shelter Society of Zanesville has received a grant to help vaccinate dogs for canine influenza virus.
The highly contagious disease can spread easily from dog to dog, especially in close proximity. The shelter received the grant from a petfinder.com foundation program to build community immunity against the respiratory infection, which has become a growing problem through the U.S. It has been confirmed in 34 states so far. Dogs can be contagious before they show any symptoms.
