The State Highway Patrol said alcohol appears to be a factor in a crash that leaves one person dead Wednesday evening.

Troopers with the Lancaster Post of the State Highway Patrol said that just after 5pm 34-year-old Phillip Oliver, of Columbus, was traveling west on US 22 enar Avalon Road when he lost control on his 1992 Honda Accord, traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and troopers said no seatbelt was in use.

The crash remains under investigation and the patrol said they urge all motorists to use a designated driver during the holiday season.
