A home is completely destroyed after a fire in Licking County earlier Monday evening.
Around 4 PM, The Hanover Fire Department, with six other crews, responded to a fire at 2601 Dragoo Road in Nashport. Assistant Fire Chief David Decker says it started somewhere in the back of the house. He says Hanover was the initial department to respond, but they had to call in mutual aid to assist due to the severity of the fire.
"I would say at this point nearly a total loss because the roof collapsing into the structure. We had to pull our guys out in order to prevent injury," said Decker.
After hours of battling the flames, Decker says the blaze was not the only concern for his firefighters. The cold temperatures also created a problem.
"I will tell you what they are doing pretty good but it is starting to wear them down. The cold is always a challenge with us; keeping our fingers crossed no slips and falls or things like that, so we are trying to rotate crews in and out so we can keep warm and keep everybody clear," said Decker.
He says no one was home at the time of the incident. The cause is unknown and the fire remains under investigation.
