The Riesbeck family is adding another grocery store to their list.
The family welcomed the community this morning to their New Concord IGA for their ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony. The Riesbeck's operate 16 supermarkets including two in Zanesville. The New Concord IGA building was orginally Shegog's IGA before undergoing this major transition. The store's retail operation is now purchased by Riesbeck Food Markets but Shegog foods will continue to own the real estate of the New Concord location. President Richard Riesbeck says the remodeling of the IGA went well over a million dollars which helped replace many of the refrigerated fixtures.
"We are very, very fortunate in these times of mega retailers, in terms of the very, very large companies doing so much business in this country and in our region, that we are very, very pleased to be able to continue the retailing tradition that was started by our grandmother," said Riesbeck.
Riesbeck says his grandmother opened the first grocery store back in the 1920s. The store started in a small town, and thanks to her, grew from there.
"We are hoping that consumers of the New Concord area will see value in our products, in our people, and in our facility," said Riesbeck.
The supermarket is located on West Main Street in New Concord.
