Homeless Count

The Muskingum County Continuum of Care will conduct a point-in-time count of the homeless in Muskingum County on January 25th.

The local organization is teaming up with the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio.  The count is a survey of homeless persons across the state which will help sustain funding for the less fortunate.  Chairperson Theresa Antal says by doing this count, they can understand the changes and trends in homelessness resulting in prevention.

"As a community member, I would hate to see anyone on the street. Everybody needs a warm place to lay their head at night," said Antal.

During last year's count, 12,407 Ohioans were homeless on a single night.  This year, volunteers are needed to perform the count throughout Muskingum County.  Antal says the count for Muskingum County will run from 8 AM to 11 PM and the more volunteers they can get, the better.  She says the local community needs to help and make a difference.

"I know what it's like to go without for a lot of things. Fortunately, I always had a roof over my head and we always had food, but there are people out there who don't have that; that's what tugs at my heart," said Antal.

A required training session will take place on January 15th at 10 AM at The Salvation Army located on Putnam Avenue.  For more information and to register for the training, please call Theresa Antal at (740) 241-2331 or send an email to tanta213@zanestate.edu.
