The State Fire Marshal's Office makes a ruling in a fatal house fire in Muskingum County.

State Fire Marshal Spokesman Shane Cartmill said that the cause of the December 9th 2010 fire at 2055 Arch Hill Road near New Concord is "undetermined."

Investigators said they could not eliminate the possibility of an electrical malfunction or a child using an open flame device such as a lighter in the area of origin.

The fire claimed the lives of 83-year-old Eugene Kelly and his grandson, 19-year-old D.J. Collins, who went into the home to rescue his grandfather after helping four other family members escape the flames.  The Fire Marshall's Office says the case will remain open, but officers will not actively conduct any further investigation unless additional informaiton is discovered or brought forward to investigators.
