Woman and Child Dead after Fatal Car Accident

A woman and child are dead after a fatal accident in Licking County.

According to the Granville Post of the State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 3 p.m. Friday on State Route 37 in Monroe Township.

Authorities say 61-year-old Margaret Pertee of Johnstown driving a Kia Rondo was traveling southeast on State Route 37 and went left of center striking 62-year-old James Doran Jr. of New Albany, who was driving a fuel tanker. Pertee went off the right side of the roadway into a ditch. Doran's vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and overturned. No fuel leaked from the tanker.

Pertee was pronounced dead on the scene. Her passenger, 5-year-old Nicholas Pertee, was taken to St. Anns Hospital and then to Nationwide Children's Hospital; where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries . Doran was transported to St. Anns Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

It is unknown if seatbelts were in use at the time of the incident.
