Pets for Adoption

While its impossible to determine how many stray dogs and cats live in the U.S., reports estimate that cats alone range up to 70 million.

The Muskingum County Animal Shelter is working hard to find homes for pets in need. Right now, cats that are six-months and older can be purchased for just $20.00. That fee includes all vaccinations and also a microchip.

The first pet we'd like to introduce is a cat named Eleanore, she is around six-years-old.

"I can personally tell you a little bit about her because she stayed at my house, I fostered her for a little while. She's a very sweet loving cat, she loves sitting on your lap and being petted. She likes to sleep at the bottom of the bed," said Larry Hostetler.

Hostetler said that Eleanore has an eye condition, but it does not hurt her or affect her life in anyway. He said she'd be perfect for an elderly person who is seeking companionship.

We are also showcasing a dog who is unnamed, he was brought in as a stray and is three-years-old.

"He's pretty active, very inquisitive about things, so he'd definitely be a good pet for an active household, maybe with children or people that have a busy lifestyle," he said.

If you are unable to adopt a pet permanently, they offer offer a foster care program which provides all supplies needed to house the animal until it can be adopted.

"A lot of times we'll get animals in that just can't handle the stress of the shelter or have special needs or maybe their too young to be vaccinated here in the shelter," said Hostetler.

The shelter is also seeking volunteers if you are looking for a way to help out in the community.
