Boil Alert for South Zanesville

A boil alert is still in affect for South Zanesville residents.

The village's water plant had to be temporarily shut down due to a blockage created from excess iron build-up. Mayor Dick Guss said they have been operating the same way for years, and isn't sure why the issue developed.

"It just kind of came on us all at once, we've been having little problems due to some leaks and stuff getting below levels in our tanks and then this blockage cut our capabilities of making water in about half," said Mayor Guss.

They had to hook up with the Zanesville plant to supplement water while they worked on the problem. He said everything has been fixed, but now the water must be tested to ensure it's safe.

"Now we just have to wait, we have to go through series of two tests we have to take samples for bacteria which one sample is on its way to Columbus as we speak and the next one has to be done tomorrow," he said.

If the tests come back negative, the boil alert will be lifted by late afternoon Thursday.
