Shooting in Cambridge

Authorities are investigating a shooting in Cambridge that severely injured one man.

"We observed one of the kids run across the road holding his stomach and a lot of blood coming out of his mouth and then he collapsed on the opposite side of the road," said Terry Holdren who witnessed the shooting.

Carter Baldwin and Terry Holdren were one of many who witnessed a shooting take place around 4 p.m. in front of the residence at 902 North 9th Street in Cambridge.

"We were coming up Stewart Avenue and we saw two white males on one side of the road and we pulled up to the stop sign and we heard one gun shot and we saw some concrete splatter up from where it must have hit the road," said Terry Holdren, "We then pulled out and came down 9th street and we heard another second gun shot and we stopped."

"At first I thought it was a fire cracker I was going to start yelling at the kids for throwing firecrackers but then I saw a guy holding a gun and then I had to get out of there, I had no idea what to do, I was scared," said Baldwin.

Cambridge Police Chief Richard Wayt said officers were immediately dispatched to the scene. One victim did suffer serious gun shot wounds and was transported to the hospital. The Muskingum County SWAT team was called in to assist after witnesses say the suspect ran back inside the home.

"Any situation like this where we believe there is a shooter with a gun inside a house, we always want to bring in a SWAT team to be able to clear the house and do it safely," said Chief Wayt.

The fire department had to use a bucket ladder to remove a resident living in an apartment on the second floor of the home. She was not injured during the incident. Authorities were able to apprehend the suspect in another location outside of town.

No other details are being released at this time.
