For the first time ever, Zanesville's Genesis Health Care System has been named in the Thompson Reuter's 100 Top Hospital's Program.
The study evaluates hospitals across the country based on areas like patient satisfaction, clinical care standards, and profitability among others. Genesis President CEO Matt Perry said it is an honor to have been recognized.
"This is the preeminent national list to make as far as hospital performance and so everybody strives to make it and you do it by excellent performance," said Matt Perry.
Genesis was one of only two Ohio hospitals recognized from more than 300 facilities in the large community hospital category. Perry said it's all about the patient experience and making sure they are giving the best care possible.
"Our patient volumes have increased over the last couple years and they are continuing to do that. I think we're really winning back the confidence of our community and this award is great recognition of that," said Perry.
Reports show that if all Medicare inpatients received the same level of care as those treated in award winning facilities like Genesis, nearly 116,000 additional patients would survive each year.
