Career Day

Over 300 Zanesville 6th grade students explored a variety of careers which all use vehicles.

Mid-East Career and Technology Centers and Zanesville City School Distrcit teamed up to host the Vehicle Career Day this morning.  Stations were set up outdoors on the Zanesville Campus of Mid-East with students rotating to each vehicle and presenter.

"This is a wonderful way to get them out of the classroom. To let them see the businesses that are in our community. Also, our area business presenters, as well as our career tech presenters, are talking about things that are needed in the world of work," said Mid-East Career Specialist Robin McQuaid.

McQuaid says Vehicle Career Day gives students the opportunity to learn about careers from a new aspect.

"The final result would be that the students come away with a better understanding of training and education, possible employment in this area, just a better understanding of careers in general, and how vehicles are used in the world of work," said McQuaid.

The event was part of an ongoing program started by Mid-East Career and Technology Centers to help insure that career development is included into the curriculum at the elementary level.

Community presenters included Air National Guard, American Red Cross, Mid-East Auto Collision, Jeff Drennan, Balderson Motor Sports, Bi-Con, Mid-East Electrical Trades, Community Ambulance, Domino's Pizza, Drabik's Landscaping, Johnson Control, Mid-East HVAC-R, Muskingum County Sheriff's Department, Mid-East Natural Resource Conservation, ODOT, ODNR, Ohio Highway Guy, ORDA-K-9, Mid-East Power Line, Pro-Turf, Smith Transport, Mid-East Diesel Technology, State Highway Patrol, WHIZ, Wisecarver Racing, Zanesville Fire Department, Zanesville City Dental Bus, and Zemba Brothers.
